Running is for everyone - PTfit Daily
No matter who you are, running can benefit your overall health and fitness stated goals. I am a powerlifter and/or strongman competitor. Besides being an all around athlete my entire life, I have competed in eight powerlifting or strongman competitions over the last four years. Not as many as I would have liked but it will do for now.
Why, 'Running is for everyone'?
Back in September of 2015, I ran a half-marathon with a three other ladies that inspired me to do so. More specifically, one of my clients was super nervous about running it, so I told her that I would do it with her if she continued to train for it. Since there were four of us who did the half marathon, the motivation and support was present through the finish line.
Karen Cooper, the Fitness Coordinator of Anytime Fitness Peoria, last year created a weekly running group called RIOT. From that, the four of us were motivated and inspired to run a half marathon as a end to the RIOT season.
It was a blast and something that opened my eyes.
During the time of the half-marathon, I had also competed in a powerlifting competition. The day before.
While medaling and hitting my best squat and deadlift ever, I was, what I like to call -successful in going out and running 13.1 miles the next day.
The Final Points
No matter what you are doing - bodybuilding, powerlifting, strongman, running, weightlifting, cycling, tennis, basketball, football, softball, baseball, etc.
Being an athlete will give you success in your specific events, guaranteed.
I know powerlifters who are dunking basketballs.
I know tennis players who have have had success in basketball.
I know weightlifters who are great at cycling (visa versa).
I know bodybuilders who are great at powerlifting. (visa versa)
I know professional golfers who bike 30+ miles on a given day.
In all, we are all, or have been athletes.
