Why You Should Wake Up Earlier

I am currently going on week four of waking up anywhere between 3:30 and 4:30 AM, just depends on the day of the week.

Sounds crazy, I know.

When I started waking up earlier, I noticed so much physically and mentally. Here are three things that I have learned or experienced while waking up before the rooster crows.


1. Focus - My focus has been off the charts the last three weeks. Despite having training sessions along with increased meetings over the last three weeks, I have still been able to have razor sharp focus. If you catch yourself dozing off at 9:30 AM in the morning at work, it might be something to think about.

2. Openness to 'Fun' - When I was waking up forty-five minutes before I needed to be at work, I was not getting as much accomplished during my day as I am currently. So, when the weekends came around to do things with friends or family, I always had weight bearing on my shoulders that I was not getting tasks done that I should have. Now that I am waking up two to three hours before I need to be at work, I am getting in the 'me' time. Exercise and waking up early has been shown in studies that people are more likely to do things socially with friends and family.

3. Decision Making - With the increased focus, I am making decisions much faster. For example, this blog post took less than an hour to write up. Whomever is reading this will take away one positive point for their life. Instead of questioning my efforts to help the readers, I just have to flipping do it!


1. Increased Muscle Mass - Now, this is something that comes primarily from nutritional intake (for me). However, I have been able to do my full training sessions without having to be rushed. As opposed to trying to squeeze a training session in between clients, I am able to have my 'me' time. I am focused on my own training and able to crush it.

2. Fat Loss - As muscle mass increases, body fat has been decreasing. This is another trait that comes with proper nutrition. Being able to focus on my own training at the beginning of the day, my stress, focus, and determination in every morning workout is better than ever.

3. Sleep Faster - Since I am waking up at the butt crack of dawn, I am pretty tired by bedtime (9:30 or 10:00 PM). This allows me to fall asleep much faster. Instead of staying up and doing work, I spend quality time at home and go to bed when I should.

This is my take home point

Waking up earlier has not only been impactful for my body, but even more so, my mind. The focus is sharper than ever and I am able to increase my work output. In the last two weeks, I have added around 8 personal training clients while still keeping my own training a priority.
