The Benefits of Cardio

Whether you like cardio or not, it may be something that needs to be implemented regularly in your exercise routine. Many studies have been done that result in tons of benefits.

The first and most prominent benefit is strengthening the heart and lungs. Cardio increases the work of the heart and lungs, making them stronger and more efficient. This strength and efficiency help reduce the risk of heart disease. With a healthier heart and lungs, your body is more resilient and capable of fighting off diseases and heart-related problems. This physical activity can decrease your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart attack, stroke, and much more.

Countless studies have shown that cardio can play a huge role in decreasing anxiety and depression while increasing your mood. Exercise changes your brain chemistry. It helps regulate the neurotransmitters in our brains, such as norepinephrine. It also boosts dopamine levels, which can improve our mood through a more stable regulation of these pathways. Serotonin, also affected by cardio, can help by increasing impulse control, self-esteem, and fighting off stress.

There are many other benefits, as well. Cardio promotes brain health, boosts your memory, and energy since you have an increase in stamina. There is also an increase in the amount and quality of sleep one may get; this could be from the stimulation of the health restoration process that occurs when one does cardio.

Now, you don't have only to do strictly cardio, that would not be good, but it is critical to get in a couple of times a week. Go for a walk, run, jump rope, dance, swim, anything that is a cardio-based exercise. The benefits of incorporating this type of movement into your routine are too great to miss out on.
